The Louisiana House of Representatives passed a bill creating a statewide toll authority.

The bill sets up the Louisiana Transportation Authority. The nine-member agency, appointed by the governor, would have the power to impose tolls and sell bonds to finance highway construction.
However, an amendment to the bill would prevent tolls from being imposed on existing roadways.
House Bill 2072, sponsored by Rep. Juba Diez, now goes to the Senate for debate.
