ALK Technologies and TMW Systems have formed a partnership to market ALK’s FleetCommander fleet optimization system, which now interfaces with TMW trucking operations and management software.
ALK, TMW to Market FleetCommander

ALK also announced it plans a late May release for PC*Miler/Streets 4.0 street-level routing, mileage and mapping software. FleetCommander uses PC*Miler and PC*Miler/Streets routing products to provide a graphical view of fleets at work. FleetCommander sorts and interprets real-time data to produce detailed maps showing the location, status, arrival time and condition of trucks anywhere in North America.
FleetCommander works with popular mobile communications systems including those from Qualcomm, @Track Communications, Aether Systems, and Terion.
According to ALK’s announcement, FleetCommander is in use at Manfredi Motor Transit and Distribution Technology, a 500-truck fleet based in Newbury, Ohio. "FleetCommander has added tremendous visualization capabilities to our already powerful automated dispatch environment," said John Hazenfield, Manfredi’s chief information officer. "FleetCommander in conjunction with Qualcomm offers the ability to calculate true out-of-route fleet and driver mileages. The actual truck routes can be compared against the PC*Miler practical routes, allowing us to quantify our non-revenue mileage. This functionality will dramatically affect our bottom line."
ALK’s vice president of sales and marketing, Vince Hamill, said users report that FleetCommander prevents a minimum 5 percent of out-of route mileage, which would save $100,000 a year for an typical 100-truck fleet.
FleetCommander interfaces with TMW’s PowerSuite and TL 2000 software systems. PowerSuite is a Windows client-server application; TL 2000 runs on the IBM AS/400. ALK is based in Princeton, N.J., TMW in Cleveland, Ohio.
