Tom Stanford, travel plaza consultant and publisher of Newport Communications' RoadStar and Truckstop/Travel Plaza magazines, has been elected chairman of The NATSO Foundation.

The foundation is the research, education and public outreach subsidiary of NATSO, the association representing truckstop and travel plazas.
Stanford will head a board of truckstop/travel plaza operators and representatives of leading industry suppliers.
Stanford began publishing the National Diesel Price Guide in the late 1970s and moved to consulting in 1980. He then worked in truckstop poster advertising and publishing, founding Newport Poster Network, Truckstop World (now Truckstop/Travel Plaza) and RoadStar. He continues to consult and has visited almost every truckstop in the United States. He served as vice chairman last year.
Elected vice chair of the Foundation was Delia Moon Meier, senior vice president of Iowa 80 Group and CAT Scale. Meier has served NATSO on the Government Affairs Committee since 1987, working as its chairperson from 1995-1997. She has been involved in the Foundation since 1998 and last year was secretary/treasurer.
The Foundation's new secretary/treasurer is Roger Phillips, manager of truckstop sales for Bridgestone/Firestone.
Elected to the Foundation board were Mark Evers, president, CEO and director of SmartStop Inc.; Fred Kirschner, who operates the Bordentown (N.J.) Petro; and Gary E. Lough, truckstop specialist at Chevron Lubricants.
