Web-based transportation intermediary NTE, Downers Grove, Ill., announced its membership roles and sales volumes surged in the first quarter of 2001 compared to the same quarter last year.

NTE provides an online marketplace for companies that buy, sell and manage transportation services. Transactions are completed over the Internet, with NTE sharing a percentage of revenue.
In the comparison between first quarter 2000 and this year, NTE said the number of shipments tripled and that truckload shipments had grown from 25 percent of last year’s total to 45 percent this year.
NTE said revenues grew by 270 percent and that 125 companies became members in the quarter, raising the total to about 1,175.
However, NTE is a privately held corporation that does not release financial results. There was no mention profit or loss in the announcement.
