Truckload carrier Roberson Transportation, of Champaign, Ill., has been selected by Ingersoll-Rand to manage transportation for a new Internet-based procurement program called The 21st Supplier.

According to Ingersoll-Rand, The 21st Supplier helps major industrial manufacturing clients consolidate and manage direct material purchasing. Direct materials are consumed in the manufacture of products, rather than maintenance and replacement. The name derives from the practice of focusing supplier programs on a company’s top 20 suppliers.
Roberson operates more than 1,200 trucks in flatbed and dry van divisions. Roberson’s logistic arm, Worldwide Logistics Solutions, will handle The 21st Supplier needs.
Ingersoll-Rand, based in Woodcliff Lake, N.J., is an international manufacturer of industrial equipment and components. Among its brand names is Thermo King.
