Exxon Mobil Corp. reported record first quarter earnings of $5.05 billion, a 51% increase over first quarter 2000.

Revenue for the quarter was $57.27 billion compared to $54.1 billion a year ago. The company said its record performance was due to higher refining margins and natural gas realizations as well as continued improvements in operating efficiencies.
Production of crude oil and liquids was 2.62 million barrels a day, up slightly from 2.60 million barrels in first quarter 2000. Exxon Mobil’s exploration and production unit, typically most affected by changes in oil and natural gas prices, earned $3.8 billion in first quarter, up 37% from last year. U.S. earnings from refining, marketing and transportation were $409 million compared to $182 million last year.
