DaimlerChrysler says its increased involvement with Japanese auto and truck maker Mitsubishi won't affect its alliance with Korea's Hyundai Motor Co.

According to published reports, Rolf Eckrodt, chief operating officer at Mitsubishi, denied a report in the trade journal Automotive News that discussions to jointly develop small cars and form a truck-making partnership with Hyundai would cease.
Last week, DaimlerChrysler announced it was buying AB Volvo's 3.3 percent stake in Mitsubishi, giving the German auto and truck maker a 37.3 percent stake and allowing a more direct working relationship with Mitsubishi' commercial vehicle operations.
DaimlerChrysler, parent company of Freightliner, has a 10-percent stake in Hyundai.
Meanwhile, detailed discussions between Mitsubishi and DaimlerChrysler are set to begin next week over possible collaborations in the trucks sector, according to published reports in Asia.
