The recently announced joint venture between Cummins and Westport Innovations has received its first sales orders for its low-emissions, natural gas Cummins ISX engines with Westport's High Pressure Direct Injection (HPDI) fuel system.

Norcal Waste Systems Inc. ordered 13 of the engines. Last year, Norcal placed an order for one field test version from Westport, and decided to order an additional 13 following the recent announcements of the Cummins-Westport joint venture and that the Westport fuel system has obtained low-emissions certification from the California Air Resources Board. All the trucks for Norcal are scheduled for delivery this year.
The chassis for each truck will be Peterbilt 378. Cummins and Paccar signed a long-term engine supply agreement earlier this month.
