John Christner Trucking, Sapulpa, Okla., will implement a new Idle Time Bonus to reward drivers who safe fuel by keeping their idling time to a minimum.
Effective April 1, drivers who have an idle time of 30 percent or less annually will get an extra 1 cent per mile.
The company says drivers won't have to sacrifice comfort to earn the bonus. "Even with the 30 percent idle time, a driver can idle his or her equipment for up to 8 hours a day and still be eligible for the bonus," says Vice President Danny Christner.
This incentive is in addition to the company's annual safety bonus and productivity bonus.
