Connecticut officials have lifted a ban on tractor-trailer traffic imposed yesterday due to the Northeastern snowstorm.

The ban, which reportedly upset some drivers, included a fine of $77 for violators. Truckers were forced to wait just outside the state's border or at Connecticut rest areas. Exemptions were given for truckers hauling fuel, food or other “essential” cargo.
American Trucking Associations spokesman Mike Russell said states shouldn't close highways to tractor-trailers and stay open for other vehicles.
"Our drivers aren't going on vacation or into the office," he said. "They are already at their workplace. The highways are where they make their living."
Even though food and fuel deliveries were supposed to be allowed through, reports indicated that many gas stations and grocery stores did not receive deliveries. Consumers flocking to stores to stock up before the worst of the storm hit found empty shelves.
