Atlanta-based CarrierPoint, the Internet logistics provider, is making its proprietary application software available for license to individual customers.

Currently, CarrierPoint offers a transportation market and logistics services as an application service provider – that is, remotely over the Internet. Customers essentially rent use of the software.
Software licensing will allow customers such as large corporations or third-party logistics companies to install and run CarrierPoint software on their own computers.
CarrierPoint technology chief Cliff Isaacson said licensing is being offered in response to customer demand for customization. The option allows adaptations for specific business needs to be made by the customers' own staff on their own computers.
The software users will be able to use CarrierPoint's Internet marketplace or set up their own. In either case, licensees will have access to CarrierPoint’s member carriers, Isaacson said.
