Mobile communications provider Terion, Inc., of Melbourne, Fla., has acquired Dolphin Software Services ULC of Dorval, Quebec, Canada.

Dolphin was a wholly owned subsidiary of Orbcomm Global, L.P., operators of the Orbcomm low-earth-orbit satellite system. Orbcomm and seven subsidiaries voluntarily filed for protection under Chapter 11 in September of last year.
Dolphin is the developer of the Dolphin Intelligent Messaging Solution, which allows mobile communications customers to interface with Internet-based dispatch and management software.
According to Terion spokesman Kurt T. Kyvik, Dolphin will continue to serve current customers using the Orbcomm system, which is still operational. Dolphin will integrate those operations into the Terion network.
Meanwhile, Kyvik said, Dolphin will provide Terion with the software expertise to create new applications and interfaces.
