Minneapolis-based PeopleNet Communications, the mobile communications provider, is beta testing PerformX,
a diagnostics product that will help fleet managers track and manage operating costs. Managers will be able to view performance data from vehicles on the road at regular intervals.
PerformX communicates with the J1708 bus and uses the same wireless technology as PeopleNet's INTOUCH Fleet Management systems to send data. Performance reports are sent directly to a manager's e-mail. Reports include odometer readings, idle time, fuel efficiency, excess speed, high RPM readings and more.
Alarms alert managers when a vehicle travels over a predetermined speed, makes sudden starts or stops and reaches a certain odometer reading.
PerformX is slated to be released at the end of first quarter 2001 and will be offered as an option to PeopleNet's INTOUCH Fleet Management systems.
