Mississippi state Rep. Henry Zuber has introduced two bills that target truckers on the highways.

House Bill 219 would set the speed limit for trucks at 5 mph less than the speed limit for other vehicles. It defines "truck" as over 10,000 pounds gross vehicle weight. The bill would allow the state Transportation Commission to increase the speed limit on four-lane, controlled-access highways in the state to up to 70 mph, as long as trucks are kept to five mph below that.
House Bill 917 would require trucks to be driven in the right-hand lane on highways with four or more lanes, except when overtaking and passing another vehicle or when preparing for a left turn or exit to the left. The bill places no such restrictions on other vehicles.
Both bills would go into effect July 1 of this year. They are both currently being considered by the Transportation Committee.
