Fuel surcharges will be automatic for motor carriers doing business with the Military Traffic Management Command.

The new policy uses the U.S. Department of Energy’s weekly fuel price as the national standard and establishes a baseline fuel price with a 10-cent-per-gallon margin, said Ruth Tetreault, coordinator of MTMC's fuel board. "For example, if we establish a fuel baseline of $1.30 and the price of fuel goes above $1.40, (carriers) will automatically be entitled to a fuel surcharge."
Members of the fuel board include Joe Harrison, American Moving & Storage Assn.; Paul Bomgardner, American Trucking Assns.; Gail Snodgrass, Union Pacific Railroad; and Dave Larson, Landstar Systems.
