International Truck and Engine Corp.'s Springfield, Ohio, plant will halt production on one assembly line the weeks of Jan. 8 and Jan 22.

About 600 of the plant's 4,200 workers will be off during the shutdown, a company spokeswoman told the Associated Press.
The plant resumed production Jan. 2 after a two-week holiday shutdown. Long-term, employment at the Springfield plant will be reduced about 40% by the end 2003 as International shifts production of heavy trucks to other facilities in order to concentrate on its soon-to-be-unveiled medium duty truck line.
