Two states are looking to toughen laws for truck drivers, according to the Owner Operator Independent Drivers Association.

Illinois lawmakers are moving to toughen requirements when it comes to getting a commercial drivers license. A bill in the state House of Representatives would require new CDL applicants and those renewing their license to have lived in the state for at least six months.
Currently the state requires someone to be living in Illinois at the time they apply for or renew their CDL. The bill comes in the wake of the Illinois CDL scandal, where more than 30 people have been convicted for accepting bribes in exchange for commercial drivers licenses. Illinois has retested hundred of truckers thought to have taken part in the scandal.
Meanwhile, in the Colorado state Senate, a measure has been introduced that would create a new class of traffic offenses that includes fines of between $300 and $1,500. The bill would allow police to cite truckers who obstruct the flow of traffic. The idea is aimed to keep truckers out of the left hand lane of multi-lane highways.
