Hino Motors, Japan's largest truck maker, plans to build commercial vehicles in North America perhaps as soon as 2004.

Company president Hiroshi Yuasa said Hino was also considering a manufacturing plant in China. Feasibility studies for both plants are under way.
Hino, an affiliate of Toyota Motor Corp., wants to increase the number of vehicles it builds for export. The company projects sales of its trucks and buses to grow 18% in 2001 to 38,010 vehicles, while exports will be little changed at 18,300 vehicles, an increase of just 0.4 percent.
