Digital map provider Etak Inc., Menlo Park, Calif., has licensed its real-time traffic service to BeVocal, a voice recognition company that will customize radio traffic reports from Etak and Westwood One.

Westwood One, a division of Infinity Radio, claims to be the largest provider of live traffic information to U.S. radio stations.
BeVocal will make that information available over the phone. Users will select the specific information they want by voice commands.
According to Etack, the telephone traffic service will offer detailed traffic information nationwide. Detailed incident reports will include a description of the problem, expected duration and degree of impact on traffic. The report also details where traffic will be affected, including direction of traffic and traffic speeds where available.
The company claims that traffic information delivered by voice rather than on a screen will be less distracting for drivers.
