Isuzu Motors Ltd. plans to double annual diesel engine production at its Moraine, Ohio plant.
The facility currently builds 6.6-liter V8 diesels used in GM’s Chevrolet Silverado and other models. General Motors owns 49% of Isuzu. The plant is run by DMAX Ltd., a GM/Isuzu joint venture 60% owned by Isuzu.
According to published reports, the company will raise capacity at the plant from 100,000 engines a year by the end of March 2003 and expand to 200,000 a year in 2004. It may eventually go to 300,000 units if demand continues to increase as Isuzu expects. A new engine due in 2004, likely a a V6 model, will be built at the U.S. plant.
