The National Weather Service has issued ice and winter storm warnings for today in much of the southern Plains.

Ice, sleet, freezing rain and snow made highways treacherous in Oklahoma, Texas and Arkansas, and more is on the way. Nine inches of show could be on the ground in Amarillo, Texas, by the end of the day. In the Texas panhandle, fog blinded drivers and froze on cold surfaces.
"It could be a major ice storm before this thing is over Tuesday night or
Wednesday," forecaster Scott Curl told the Associated Press.
The Northeast and Midwest will be dryer but will still be very cold, according to The Weather Channel's www.weather.com. The Northeast will see gusty winds, at times above 40 mph, producing wind chill readings as low as 30 below. Temperatures will only reach the single digits in the Upper Midwest today.
