The Military Traffic Management Command has proposed that relocation companies operating as brokers be allowed to compete with carriers for domestic and international transportation of personal property.

On Dec. 18, MTMC issued a notice that it is amending carrier qualifications rules to add standards for brokers that want to compete in the U.S. Defense Department’s Personal Property Program. No specifics were given, but MTMC said brokers would have to establish and maintain, to the agency’s satisfaction, sufficient equipment, personnel, facilities and finances to meet service requirements.
Comments to the proposal are due Feb. 16. Additional information and qualification requirements can be found in "How to Do Business in the Personal Property Program" at www.mtmc.army.mil. Click Transportation Services, then Personal Property & POV. Instructions are located under Carriers Approvals & Performance.
