Black truck drivers say little has changed since a lawsuit was filed against Emery Worldwide Airlines nearly two years ago alleging racial discrimination at Kearny, N.J., depot -- and more drivers are bringing complaints against the company.

In an interview with the Associated Press, Milton Hudson said although the harassment is not as blatant as the nooses that were set up to intimidate the drivers, "there's still stuff going on, but they're trying to keep it more hush-hush."
Hudson and six other black drivers claim white drivers got the good routes, more overtime, and less punishment, while black drivers had their trucks and personal vehicles vandalized.
Another group of six black drivers filed a similar lawsuit last week.
The drivers are seeking unspecified punitive and compensatory damages in the suit, which was filed in March 1999. They also want back pay for those they say were wrongly fired from Emery and its parent company, CNF. The firing of at least one of the black drivers appears to be in retaliation for the lawsuit, according to the mens' lawyer.
