Dana Corp.'s Spicer Driveshaft Division, Toledo, Ohio, received the 2000 Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award for manufacturing.
The Baldrige Award was established by Congress to promote awareness of performance excellence, recognize quality and business achievements of U.S. companies, and publicize successful business excellence strategies.
The Spicer Driveshaft Division was one of two recipients in the manufacturing category this year and one of only 19 operations to have received the honor for manufacturing since it was first awarded in 1988.
The Spicer Driveshaft Division underwent an independent review by various examiners from public and private sectors, a consensus meeting among eight Baldrige examiners, and a weeklong site visit. Spicer Driveshaft Division was evaluated in seven categories, including leadership, strategic planning, customer and market focus, information and analysis, human resource focus, process management and business results.
The Spicer Driveshaft Division is the second Dana operation to win the Baldrige Award. Dana Commercial Credit Corp., the company's leasing subsidiary, received the award in 1996.
The award will be presented at a later date in Washington, DC.
