Qualcomm has announced the first purchasers of its new OmniExpress mobile communications system are Averitt Express of Cookeville, Tenn., and Hub Group of Lombard, Ill.
Both companies will be using the new Qualcomm product in local pickup and delivery operations.
OmniExpress was designed specifically for fleets operating in defined areas, such as those served by LTL terminals. These types of local and regional operations don’t need the universal coverage offered by Qualcomm’s flagship satellite product, OmniTRACS, the truckload industry standard.
OmniExpress offers a similar onboard messaging display and keyboard but uses less expensive ground-based communications provided by the Sprint PCS network, which uses the CDMA (Code Division Multiple Access) technology developed by Qualcomm.
