Matheson Fast Freight, Elk Grove, CA, plans to purchase seven liquid natural gas trucks to haul U.S. mail.
Although the trucks could cost Matheson $700,000, the fleet could receive up to $400,000 in incentives from the Sacramento Metropolitan, Bay Area and South Coast Air Quality Management Districts. According to Tim Taylor, chief of the Sacramento Metropolitan Air Quality Management District, the districts are willing to offer incentives “if it helps make the trucking community view [LNG vehicles] as a viable option.”
