The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency has delayed the Clean Fuel Fleet Program start date for one year — it will now begin in model year 1999.
CFFP requires fleets of 10 or more vehicles that are centrally fueled and operated in heavily polluted areas to obtain a certain percentage of “clean fuel” vehicles. The delay is designed to allow carriers to postpone compliance costs and have a greater choice of certified vehicles — currently only natural gas vehicles are certified to meet the clean fuel standards.
