The Senate yesterday approved an appropriations bill for the Environmental Protection Agency without including language that would have postponed the EPA's new diesel emissions regulations.

By 87-8, the Senate approved two bills that were fused together: a $107 billion
measure financing veterans, housing, environment and science programs, and a $23.6 billion bill for energy and water projects. House passage is expected next week, and Clinton is expected to sign the package.
The final bill dropped GOP language that would have hindered EPA efforts to reduce diesel emissions.
A number of groups and companies, including the American Trucking Assns. and Cummins, had urged the EPA to delay the final rule until more studies were completed.
