When trucker Roger Lee Nelson purchase a DAT Services’ DriveLinePLUS pre-paid calling card and entered the DriveLinePLUS Big Truckin’ Deal sweepstakes, he had no idea his name would be selected from more than 31,000 entrants as the grand prize winner.
An independent owner-operator who hauls southern yellow pine from northwestern Alabama to Texas, Nelson currently operates a 1982 Freightliner that has seen more than 2 million miles. But as a result of the sweepstakes, sponsored by DAT Services, the Red Bay, AL, resident will now be behind the wheel of a 1997 custom-painted Freightliner. Nelson and his wife will also receive a trip to Portland, OR, to tour the Freightliner production plant and receive his new rig.
Other prizes awarded in the sweepstakes included five trips to the 1998 Daytona 500 which went to: Rick Curry, Maroa, IL; James Holton, Kentwood, LA; Jonathan Lawson, College Park, MD; Beverly Mrosko, Youngstown, OH; and Allen Preddy, Jr., Brooklyn, NY.
