Homestore.com, Thousand Oaks, Calif., announced it will join with five top U.S. moving companies to develop a Web site allowing consumers to shop for and purchase moving services directly over the Internet.
The service will be on the iMove.com Web site.
Homestore.com is a large Web site offering home-oriented services, products and advice to consumers. iMove.com is linked to Homestore.com, but specializes in advice and resources for consumers confronting a household move.
Besides Homestore.com, the new joint venture will include Allied, Bekins, Mayflower, North American and United Van Lines. At the improved iMove.com site, consumers will be able to compare price quotes and make decisions online.
The Homestore.com site already offers resources, references and advice on the general subject of household moving, everything from real estate agents to school district ratings. iMove.com provides step-by-step recommendations for planning a move plus the names of van lines, truck rental companies and other consumer vendors.
