The National Transportation Exchange is offering 60-day trial memberships to shippers and promises to process applications within one hour at its Web site, www.nte.net. The normal enrollment process occurs offline and generally takes a day or longer.

”Our goal is to make it easier for companies to do business with us," said James Davidson, NTE president and chief executive officer.
When they enroll for trial membership, companies must agree to NTE's trading rules. Among other things, shippers agree to ship only unitized freight and to load and unload shipments within an hour of the carrier's arrival. An online training package explains how to use the system.
NTE is an online market for ground transportation capacity, much of it unused space on truckload trailers sold to LTL shippers.
According to NTE, a comparably streamlined process will be available for ground transportation carriers in the fall.
