Farmers trucking through Nebraska will be able to exceed their maximum legal weight during the harvest season, thanks to a bill passed during the last session of the state legislature.

According to Associated Press reports, the new law allows farm trucks to haul agricultural commodities up to 70 miles from the point of harvest to storage or sale while exceeding the maximum legal load by 15 percent. Before the law, farmers were required to apply for a special permit.
The exemptions were part of a bill that clarified a number of Federal Motor Carrier regulations, and does not apply to travel on the interstate highway system. Some roads may also be subject to restriction by local ordinance.
