Roadway Second Quarter Net Up 30%

Roadway Express, Akron, Ohio, last week said its earnings hit 52 cents per share in the second quarter, representing an increase of 29% or 40 cents per share from the same time last year.

The company said total tonnage was up 6.9% in the three months ending June 17 compared with a year earlier, and per-ton revenue for the quarter gained 6.6% while operating costs rose just 6.2%. Roadway’s LTL tons were up 8%, while truckload tonnage increased 2.1%
