After winning nearly $5 million in a lawsuit last week resulting from the untimely death of their daughter, a Florida couple announced their plans to fight for tougher cargo securement regulations.

Herman and Pearl Jordan of Delray Beach, FL, want cargo to be completely covered instead of just tied down, according to an article in the Fort Lauderdale, FL, Sun-Sentinel.
The Jordans' 25-year-old daughter, Jeannetta, was returning to South Carolina State University with a friend in August 1998 when her car hit a roll of chain-link fence that fell off a truck on Interstate 95 in Georgia. The car veered off the highway and rolled over, killing both girls. The family of the other girl, Sherika Nelson of Jacksonville, FL, settled last year with the company that owned the truck, Southeastern Wire of Jacksonville.
The Jordan family and Southeastern couldn't agree on damages. The family was seeking $10 million, but the jury awarded them nearly $5 million after deciding that Southeastern was negligent in not properly securing the load.
