Paccar trucks may soon include advanced traffic advisory services. The ePaccar Division of Paccar Inc., makers of Kenworth and Peterbilt trucks, has announced a partnership with technology company InfoMove of Seattle, WA.

InfoMove will supply ePaccar with a suite of wireless Internet applications to alert truck drivers of traffic congestion along planned routes, recommended alternatives and turn-by-turn driving directions. Later applications could include e-mail, remote vehicle diagnostics and other services.
InfoMove's platform integrates Global Positioning System (GPS) with wireless and Internet technologies. The company will offer its service through Internet portals, hardware manufacturers, automotive companies and other organizations. InfoMove says consumers will be able to sign up for the first phase of the service in beginning in the fall of this year.
"Paccar has demonstrated its technological leadership within the industry in terms of its products, systems and embrace of e-commerce. The company's detailed knowledge of the industry and technology, coupled with InfoMove's solution for establishing a wireless systems application, will create a powerful force in the commercial vehicle industry," said Mark C. Pigott, Paccar's chairman and chief executive officer.
According to InfoMove, future applications could include location-specific advertising.
