The U.S. Department of Transportation's Research and Special Programs Administration will hold a public meeting June 27-28 to discuss emergency shutdown equipment on cargo tank motor vehicles used to transport liquefied compressed gases.

A year ago RSPA published a final rule requiring passive emergency discharge control equipment that shuts down unloading operations without human intervention. The new rules also require remote shutdown capabilities for some cargo tanks.
RSPA allowed two years for development and testing of emergency discharge control technology and is holding an informal meeting to exchange information regarding technology developments, test results, and operating experience. It will be held at the Federal Aviation Administration Building, 2300 East Devon Avenue, Des Plaines, IL. For additional information contact Herbert Gould, (617) 494-2599, or Eloy Martinez, (617) 494-2599.
