P.A.M. Transportation Services, Tonitown, AR, has reported net income of $2.1 million for the quarter ended March 31, 2000, compared to net income of $2.8 million for the quarter ended March 31, 1999. Revenues for the first quarter of 2000 increased 5.4% to $54.1 million, compared to $51.4 million in the same quarter of 1999.
Robert W. Weaver, president, commented, "We believe that the strong demand for our services in the quarter was the primary factor that contributed to these solid results. Our earnings per share were lower than first quarter of 1999 primarily due to the increased cost of fuel after tax net of fuel surcharge which resulted in a negative impact of $.14 per share. Excluding the effect of these increased fuel cost, we would have exceeded our first quarter 1999 earnings per share."
