Vice President Al Gore Friday had lunch with Teamsters President James P. Hoffa, who continues to withhold his union's endorsement.

Gore, the Democratic presidential candidate, was on a part-official, part-campaign trip to Michigan, where he also announced the 21st Century Truck Initiative in conjunction with Earth Day.
Before sitting down with Gore, Hoffa told a reporter that political endorsement was not on the day's menu. "It's going to be a tough race for everyone," Hoffa said, according to the Associated Press. "We're not making any announcement about who we're going to endorse and not endorse."
The Teamsters have held out endorsing Gore, despite the backing of other unions, because of the vice president's views on free trade.
