DaimlerChrysler AG is reportedly exploring development of Class 4-type pickup to be sold under the Freightliner nameplate.
According to Stark's News Service the company is considering a broad strategy for its Dodge Ram pickups with two platforms for all 2002 models. The program would include a premium 2002 model Class 4 which would carry the Freightliner name and share some components with Freightliner Business Class trucks.
Stark reports that DaimlerChrysler will decide by this summer if it will proceed with final developments but has already enlisted the participation of several key component suppliers.
A Freightliner spokesperson said it was premature to comment on possible plans for the Dodge line. Freightliner is expected to introduce its own Class 1-4 truck sometime this year.
