Navistar International will make a major announcement regarding its e-commerce strategy within the next month, Chairman, President and CEO John Horne said at a news conference following its annual meeting.

Navistar, which recently announced that its operating company would now be called International Truck and Engine Corp., already lists its used truck inventory on a Web site and Horne said new truck inventory will be added soon. He wouldn't give any more specifics except to say that planned use of the Internet could help sell products while reducing inventory costs, according to Reuters News Service.
One possibilty is that Navistar would join the "auto-xchange" supplier network being established by Ford Motor Co. and Oracle Corp. The company provides International engines for Ford trucks. Horne acknowledged that their Internet model must be compatible with Ford's. But Navistar could buy a stake in auto-xchange or simply supply parts on the network.
"I would expect a lot of things we do to be in concert with some people," Horne said. "Maybe we have equity in it, maybe we don't."
