DaimlerChrysler is looking at building a plant in the U.S. that will produce some 100,000 Mercedes-Benz trucks a year, a company executive told German reporters. European capacity will not meet projected sales volume from 2003, he said.

The company is expected to start marketing its popular Sprinter van in the U.S. sometime this year. It's also eyeing the Asian market for the Sprinter but reportedly has said it will first need a partner there.
