USA Truck, Van Buren, AR, reported 1999 operating revenues of nearly $166.4 million, up 14.6 percent from $145.2 million in 1998. Net income decreased 17.7 percent to $8.6 million in 1999, compared with $10.5 million in 1998.
President Robert M. Powell said the company had the best empty mile ratio it had seen in
years, and the number of shipments increased by 19,305, loads to 147,484. These factors were slightly offset by a decline in utilization per tractor. He said the company was addressing the utilization issue as well as the other cost pressures such as fuel and recruiting.
