The West Virginia Turnpike has added the E-ZPass electronic toll collection system.

As a vehicle drives at 5 mph past a toll booth, a transponder placed on the windshield is activated and charges the driver's account. The system opened at the Ghent toll plaza on Interstate 77 in Raleigh County this week. It is scheduled to be in place at the Chelyan toll plaza in Kanawha County by the end of January, and at the North Beckley toll plaza by mid-February.
West Virginia Parkways Authority officials say they hope the new system will also help truckers avoid lost time and increase productivity.
