The U.S. trucking industry is busier than ever delivering the goods for the 1999 holiday season.

According to the American Trucking Assns., nearly $185 billion in gifts and goods will be directly delivered by truck this year, a 5% increase over last year.
This year's holiday cargo includes most of the country's estimated 33 million Christmas trees, as well as the vast majority of gifts exchanged during the holiday season.
The trucking industry also will help make sure those attending holiday parties and family gatherings are well-fed. Connecting shippers to supermarkets are trucks hauling 1.3 billion pounds of turkey, 6.7 million pounds of cranberries, and 1.1 million pounds of sweet potatoes.
