Con-Way Transportation Services is modifying its fuel surcharge tariff used by its LTL divisions Con-Way Western Express, Con-Way Southern Express and Con-Way Central
Express.

A truckload (TL) level of surcharge will be established for shipments rated at 20,000 pounds and above. Previously the company only had a single fuel surcharge that applied to all shipments. The Conway surcharge is based on the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE)
National Average Price for a gallon of diesel fuel. The truckload surcharge level will be twice the level of the LTL fuel surcharge.
Justification for the TL level is based on the fact that fuel cost has a much larger impact on large shipments than smaller LTL shipments. The change will become effective November 29, 1999.
