Ryder Announces Technician Recruitment Program

Ryder System is adding a new function to its network of recruiting centers: recruiting technicians.

The Miami-based company will use its network of 26 Ryder Recruiting Centers, currently focused on recruiting commercial drivers, to serve as recruiting centers for both technicians and drivers.
The new program will involve partnering with national and local technical schools, targeting experienced military technicians through the Defense Outplacement Referral System, establishing an incentive-based employee referral program, and launching a targeted marketing campaign.
"Ryder's maintenance expertise is critical in serving its commercial lease and rental fleet of over 180,000 vehicles at 950 locations nationwide," said James B. Griffin, president of Ryder Transportation Services.
The American Trucking Assns. applauded Ryder for the move. "A chronic technician shortage has persisted in our industry for years. As government regulations require more technically advanced monitoring systems, the job of the trained technician is becoming more important and requires a more advanced set of skills," said Carl Kirk, ATA vice president of maintenance, information technology and logistics.
