James P. Hoffa, general president of the Teamsters union, is taking Transportation Secretary Rodney Slater to task over the presence of Mexican trucks in the U.S.

According to DOT, Mexican trucks have been found in 24 states outside of the border states. DOT is not clear on the legality of such operations, but Hoffa is clear with his opinion: "I cannot properly express how disappointed I am to hear that the Department of Transportation has stated on numerous occasions that Mexican trucks are currently allowed to traverse the United States."
In a letter to Slater, Hoffa said, "This is unacceptable and, quite frankly, shocking given the administration's decision not to open the border to unsafe Mexican trucks."
A spokesman for the DOT Inspector General said the situation is under review and a report is expected in October.
