The Truckload Carriers Assn. honored two trucking companies for emphasizing safety in every aspect of daily business at its recent annual meeting.

Jet Express of Dayton, OH, won the award for truckload companies operating under 25 million miles annually, while National Freight, Waxahachie, TX, won in the over-25-million-mile category.
At Jet Express, company drivers and independent drivers are given a road test before hiring. Drivers with less than a year of experience go through a driver finishing program consisting of one-on-one training for four to six weeks with a trained driver-finisher. The entire process is closely evaluated through an ISO 9002 quality process.
National Freight's total highway traffic accidents have been in constant decline since 1992, while the total miles driven have increased more than 30%. Its company drivers and independent contractors pass through 20 different training phases with a mandatory three-day orientation program.
