Nov. 5 – Western Star Trucks Holdings increased its revenue for the first quarter of fiscal 1999 by $51.8 million compared to last year, thanks to the strong demand for heavy trucks.
This is despite a downturn at the company’s Orion Bus Industries subsidiary, which was partly to blame for a drop in net income for the quarter of $1 million compared to the same quarter last year.
The order board at Western Star Trucks is at a record high of more than 6,000 trucks, reports chairman, president and CEO Terry Peabody. The company has increased its build rate to 29 units per day and is evaluating different strategies to increase its manufacturing capacity.
