Nov. 18 – AmeriTruck Distribution Corp., Fort Worth, TX, has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection and plans to liquidate the assets of its refrigerated division.

According to published reports, both Prime Inc. and Frozen Food Express were said to be interested in buying the company, but neither deal came through. The company will cease operations of AmeriTruck Refrigerated Transport as soon as possible. The closing could affect up to 1,000 employees. Some long-standing customers will be served by other AmeriTruck companies.
AmeriTruck’s specialized carrier and regional LTL groups are still profitable, but the company has gotten into debt as it has made acquisitions over the past few years.
